本片根据真人真事改编而成，故事原型来自河北农大果树系93（01）班同学15年如一日照顾病逝同学父母的感人事迹。主人公李宝阳在花样的年华因病陡然离世，为了告慰逝者也为了赡养逝者的父母，这群异姓的兄弟姐妹共同坚守着一个永远的约定——老吾老以及人之老。15年间的点点滴滴由一个良心赌串起，相信人心和诚信的村主任与看透人情冷暖的刘曲儿打的这个赌亦是本剧的看点之一。最终，刘曲儿输了，他却在戏台高唱“一诺千金美名扬”。而这个群体用真情谱写的“善行河北”也响彻燕赵大地，温暖着每一个人。
